The Igbo leaders of Thought have expressed joy over the excitement and
frenzy in the country, especially all over Igbo land, that it said
have greeted the proposed national conference which President Goodluck
Jonathan is convening in order to save Nigeria.
The Igbo leaders said they are very proud of the development and also
with President Jonathan at the turn of events, adding that they will
support the President till 2019.
Deputy Secretary of Igbo Leaders of Thought, Evangelist Elliot Uko,
who made the expression yesterday in Enugu, stated that they are
congratulating President Jonathan on the very bold step to deliver
Nigeria from forces that have held the country down since both the
amalgamation in 1914 and Independence in 1960.
The group said that if the conference turns out very successful, as
they believe it will, President Jonathan will go down the history as
father of modern Nigeria, noting that the ethnic bigotry, religious
hatred, social and political crises bedevilling Nigeria have come to a
head where the country is now strongly marching on the road to Somalia
and where only a genuine restructuring of the country via a national
conference and affirmation of a new constitution through a referendum
will save Nigeria.
Uko said: “We congratulate President Jonathan for his vision to save
Nigeria from this tiny minority dominating and oppressive hug that
held the country down for decades. We believe that the conference will
be successful and we believe that President Jonathan will go down in
history as the Man who saved Nigeria.
“The feeling of Ndigbo and which we believe is shared by other
Nigerians is that if this conference throws up a new constitution,
which will be affirmed at a referendum, then President Jonathan will
become the most popular leader Nigeria ever had. His 2015 election
will be a walk over and he will lead Nigeria to a greater height. By
2019 when he leaves, Nigeria will become the most popular country in
sub-Saharan Africa.”
“President Jonathan has opened a new vista of opportunity, a new
chapter of positive development that we have never seen before and we
are all praying for the successful conference. Ndigbo have been with
President Jonathan through thick and thin and we will continue to be
with him, support him till 2019 and we believe that this conference
will turn Nigeria into one of the great Nations of the world. We thank
President Jonathan for his wisdom and forth righteousness.”
