The Ebonyi state Commissioner for Information and state Orientation,
Mr Chike Onwe said the state is now agog with the search for the next
governor of the state to succeed the incumbent, Elechi, whose tenure
would expire by May, 2015.
Already, Onwe had lent credence to the position of the governor that
power would shift to the south on the ground of divine providence for
equity to be maintained.
He was convince on the grounds of equity, fairness and human
conscience that since the North has put in eight years, and the
central by 2015, must have put in their eight years, the south should
be allowed to put in their own eight years.
Onwe said though it was a wish that was never penciled down or
discussed on round table, it is on bases of equity and fairness that
power should shift to the south, having rotated round North and
central zones.
He said that in tandem with strokes of divine providence that the
calculation is that power should shift to the south.
“In 1999, the governorship position was contested by all the three
zones in the state. By stroke of divine providence, the North zone won
the election. In 2003, the seat was equally contested by all the zones
and through divine providence; the North equally won the election.
“In 2007, both the north and the other two zones contested the
election and through divine providence, the central zone won the
governorship. Also in 2011, the same election was contested by all the
three zones and through divine providence again, the Central zone also
produced the governor”.
“In 2015, it is through the alliance of strokes of divine providence
that power is expected to shift to the south senatorial zone, he said.
The commissioner in his recent comment on facebook social media,
enjoined everyone to be part of succession plan and activities so that
they would not make any mistake in their choice.
He disclosed “in Ebonyi state the big search has started. The race has
begun. The big search is: who succeeds Elechi in 2015? Who is the man?
Where is he coming from? The great search is on. We have to get it
right”.
A close source to the governor who spoke on condition of anonymity
cautioned the commissioner to utilize the social media for the
dissemination of the numerous projects of the governor, not to
distract the governor with the politics of 2015, which is still far.
He said that the insinuation that the search for Elechi’s successor
has started would generate tension and heat up the polity, because “as
Chief Information Officer in the state, everything he says is always
regarded as the position and mind of the government”.
