Jurist In Nasarawa Raises Alarm Over Assassination Threat by Police

A practicing lawyer in Nasarawa state, Barrister Hassan Yakubu has alleged that
that the Nasarawa state Police Commissioner umar Shehu has threatened to
eliminate him and his client Abubakar Turaki currently in police custody.

Addressing newsmen in Lafia, Barrister Hassan a principal partner with Mustapha
charmbers in Lafia said that the Police Commissioner made the threat when
he visited him in his office.

“I only demanded   to know why my client was
detained for seven days when he told me categorically that he can shot my
client and me if the Governor ask him to do it and nothing will happen”.

“My
client only criticized the Governor for abnormalities in payment of his land Government
collected to be used by the state Government to build a trailer park”

He explained that the police Boss also boosted that his client will be reminded
in prison on Monday by a magistrate court and that nobody will stop it.

Barrister Hassan urged the inspector general of police to intervene and retire
the CP as his action negates constitutional mandate.

Also speaking the elder brother to the detained suspect Yakubu Mohammed said
his brother was arrested for sending text message  to the Governor
challenging the rational behind the payment of his land at the cost of fifty
thousands naira which was collected by the state government to build a trailer
park.

Mohammed said that in the text message his brother demand to know why that of
the Governors relation was paid N45 million while others are paid fifty
thousands naira.

But the Nasarawa state commissioner for information Hamza Elayo
said that the Governor has never interfere with the operations of the police in
the state.

“If the commissioners of police see anybody committing crime is his
responsibility to arrest him not for the governor to give him directives”

Efforts to speak to the commissioner of police Umar Shehu proves abortive as
his lines are switched off.
