Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu has urged his constituents to protect the numerous projects he attracted to them, saying he was happy that ninety nine percent of the projects he attracted to his Enugu West Constituency were going on well.
Ekweremadu, who spoke during his annual Christmas Interaction Session with stakeholders in his constituency including the members of committee he inaugurated to monitor the projects which was held at Citi-Park Hotel, Enugu, urged them to report anybody that destroys any of the projects to the police so that the law would take its course.
The member of the upper chamber of the National Assembly said he has no problem with anybody in the state, insisting that Enugu State deserved peace for progress and development to take place.
He stressed that he was interested in peace , pointing that crisis would lead to nowhere even as he insisted that nobody has the right to stop or destroy any ongoing project in his constituency.
The deputy senate president charged members of the monitoring committee to work towards the actualization of equitable distribution of projects as well as to make sure that contractors do not do their work half-hazardly.
Ekweremadu, who is also the speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, said as a parliamentarian, he does not handle money for projects, stating that all he does is to attract projects and ensure that they are awarded to contractors.
According to him, money for constituency projects is not given to politicians but to contractors, adding that they do not even select contractors. He added that what they do is only to pursue the projects.
He told the stakeholders that his aim was to provide quality representation for his people, saying he was ready to entertain advices as well as commendations in anywhere he performed well for his people.
The deputy senate president assured that he would continue to attract projects to his constituents and urged them not to allow anybody to disrupt ongoing projects in their communities.
He told his constituents that he would continue to fight for their interests and advised them to champion the course of peace, saying it was the only way to attract meaningful development.
Gift items procured by the deputy senate president and his wife as well as cash were given to the constituents and widows that attended the occasion.
