The move by the South East chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria {CAN} to ban political rallies, consultations, visits, talks and donations in churches and other places of worship in the region has received the commendation of the All Progressives Congress(APC).

In its press statement, CAN noted with concern that, ‘No politician is henceforth allowed to carry his campaign train to the church and begin to make unnecessary promises or make donations that are frivolous to buy the conscience of the people. Anambra people should be ready to vote according to their conscience and shun money bags who come to entice them with money, the mandate of the people must be respected’.

The APC said they totally agreed with CAN “on the truism that if Governor Peter Obi and the APGA campaign train did not sneak into the Uke place of worship to attend the adoration or at the least had gone to the adoration ground candidly for spiritual uplifting, meditation and communion with God without campaigning, and making donations; definitely the tragedy could have been avoided.

“also CAN’s observation that, ‘What we are seeing today in Anambra State is a desecration of the church, people should go to the church to pray and be saved not to go to church to die, we are very much concerned over what happened. We therefore call on politicians to stay clear of our churches with their campaign train..’, tallies with the independent observers position on the tragedy, not the blame game of Governor Obi and his cohorts.

“We equally agree with CAN that the Federal Government should set up an investigation panel to find out the remote cause of the Uke Adoration tragedy; not Governor Obi the culprit judging his own case.”

APC believes that no one whose every move results in horrendous deaths of hundreds of his citizens cannot be trusted with any mandate or votes in any election anywhere. The statement which was signed by the Zonal APC Leader, Chief Osita Okechukwu reiterated that “We must not forget that Governor Obi is alleged to had issued the shoot at sight Order against MASSOB members in Anambra State?

“The last we heard about this heinous tragedy was the statement credited to Chief Victor Umeh in Thisday newspaper of April 18, 2013 which quote, ‘On the directive of Obasanjo, Obi gave a shoot at sight order against MASSOB members in Anambra State. So many people were killed in the process. This angered Ojukwu and all of us a great deal and when they impeached him, Ojukwu told me that Peter Obi will never be anything in APGA any more. I took Obi to Ojukwu to beg him severally before he finally agreed’.

“On Ezigbo Gburugburu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s demise the man Governor Obi hypocritically adores, he was fingered, Chief Victor Umeh a close confidant of his has this to say, ‘Let November 26 come and go I will expose all of their activities as they claim to be upholding the ideals of Ojukwu. The way things are going, very soon I will start granting interviews again to put things in proper perspective both for Governor Obi and all of them that are destroying this party……It is time to expose everybody and everything I know about Ojukwu’s illness and the death of Ojukwu’. —Sun newspaper November 12 2012.

“On the Ezu River tragedy, where hundreds floating dead bodies of young men were found, has Governor Obi as the Chief Security Officer of Anambra State unraveled what happened or filed suit against the police?”, the statement added.
