The new Commissioner of Police in Anambra state, Mr. Usman Akila Gwary, has said the command is to witness a complete new experience in security of lives and property and therefore prepared to guarantee a crime-free Christmas and beyond in the state.
Gwary who addressed journalists in his Awka office yesterday alongside top officers of the command said knowing the peculiarity of the crimes committed in the state he had no option but to get serious with his job from the beginning. He however sought for the full cooperation of the people. Hear him, “In Anambra State everybody knows that policing had to be taken seriously. I know the nature of crime common in this area. So, I am prepared to take the bull by the horn. And my men here have shown that I have all their cooperation,” he said. “Policemen are not angels. They are men like you and me. We only have an edge because we have been specially trained. “The public therefore should be very patriotic. They should give us information. People should not hide criminals,” the police chief said. The new police chief commended the officers and the security arrangement already on ground, but assured it would be beefed up and enhanced. He said, “My thrust is to build on existing robust security network, and provide an enabling environment for people to go about their lawful business freely without fear of anything. Invariably this will pave way for economic activities to grow. “However, it is pertinent to note that this singular achievement cannot be realised without your co-operation and support. My door will always be opened for you at all times for constructive discussions, engagement and for enquiries,” he said.
