Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Health Services, Hon. Suru Avoseh, has said that the state government would soon commence comprehensive kidney treatment in one of the state hospitals.
Avoseh, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), representing Badagry I, argues that such facility would allow the citizens to have quick access to kidney treatment and transplant, adding that “Lagos State is up to the task.
“If you go to Gbagada General Hospital, you will see the just commissioned Trauma and Burns Centre. I believe it is the first of its kind in the whole federation. You will also see the Cardiac and Renal Centre, which is about to be commissioned, and by the time it is handed over, it will be one of the best.”
Avoseh said the citizens would enjoy the resources here in Nigeria instead of travelling to India, Britain or the United States for kidney problems or transplant.
He said the facilities would be available to everyone to have contact with the medical doctors who would be giving professional advice to the kidney patients.
The lawmaker advised Lagosians to take advantage of the ongoing modelling of Primary Healthcare Centres in the state, urging the residents to patronise available PHCs in their various communities instead of proceeding to the General Hospitals and Teaching Hospital for ailments that could be properly handled at the PHC level.
He added: “We are also revitalising our PHCs. In the past, you could only see one medical doctor in a PHC, but now you can see six, seven or eight qualified doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and laboratory technicians readily available.”
“If you go to Lagos Island PHC, the place has been changed. Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area, Ajara PHC in Badagry, have all been completed and handed over.
“Also in Eredo, in Epe and Onigbongbo, they have all been handed over. The state government wants to ensure that all the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 LCDAs have effective PHC each.”
