A political pressure group in Ekiti State, the Ekiti Justice Group (EJG) has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the security situation in the State, saying; “Ekiti State under Governor Kayode Fayemi is drifting towards anarchy.”
Reacting to the attack on supporters of the Ekiti Bibiire Coalition in Emure-Ekiti on Sunday, which led to the death of Mr. Foluso Ogundare and many others, including a woman, Mrs Beatrice Ige injured, EJG said in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Ebenezer Olaleye that “only the president can save Ekiti State from being plunged into a state of anarchy by Governor Fayemi and his thugs because we are getting closer to a situation where people will begin to defend themselves.”
The group, which described the murder of Foluso Ogundare in broad daylight as “one murder too many”, described the silence of Ekiti-born lawyer and self-professed human rights activists, Femi Falana as a sign of his endorsement of the political violence being perpetrated by the Fayemi-led government.
EJG said; “With the murder of Foluso Ogundare on Sunday, the numbers of dead victims of Governor Fayemi’s political intolerance have risen to six, and we wonder how many people will still be killed before the 2014 election.
“It should also be clear to discerning minds the party that is the nest of killers in Ekiti because as at today, it is the State Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Jide Awe that is standing trial for his alleged involvement in the murder of Ayo Murphy Jeje and Mrs Juliana Adewunmi.
“And as it is in Ekiti, the people might be pushed to such a state that they will begin to defend themselves against Governor Fayemi’s thugs and the result will be anarchy.
“The president should therefore come to our aid in Ekiti by directing a thorough investigation into the previous cases of murder in the State, and in particular; the gruesome murder of Foluso Ogundare in Emure-Ekiti on Sunday.”
