According to available information, the Governor – who has about 90days left in his tenure – had sought audience with some members of the Anambra State Assembly, impressing on them his desire to seek a supplementary budget of N40million. The meeting was held at a private location. Following the meeting – which comprised of many All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] members of the State Assembly, the Governor was said to have distributed monies to the members – as bribe money to enable the quick facilitation of the said supplementary budget. One of the lawmakers who was present for the meeting revealed to 247ureports.com that an estimated amount of N20million was handed to each of the State Assembly members that attended the meeting.
In talking with the clerk to the Anambra State House of Assembly, it was confirmed that the Anambra State Assembly will seat for tomorrow – Friday, November 8, 2013. The clerk however did not confirm whether the Governor of Anambra State will be presenting a supplementary bill.
In talking with one of the lawmakers believed to be closely associated with Governor Peter Obi, the honorable member representing a constituency in Umunze, Hon. Nikki Ugochukwu, she told 247ureports.com that she was not aware of the supplementary budget – and that she was not aware of the seating tomorrow. But the clerk of the House dismissed Hon. Nikki Ugochukwu as not being aware of the happenings at the house of assembly. “She seldom attends seating“, he said.
Spectators who have come to be aware of the supposed supplementary bill of N40billion to be presented to the lawmakers question the ethics of the move on the part of the Governor. Some question whether the supplementary bill will be exhausted or implemented before the exit of the present governor.
Governor Peter Obi, of late, had engaged the electorate of Anambra in a cash bazaar of donations and vehicle donations to communities and individuals. The cash bazaar activities by the Governor interestingly comes at the campaign season of who to take over from the seat of governor.
Earlier in 2013, in June, the Governor had presented a supplementary budget of N25billion to the Anambra State Assembly. Approval was given. This was following a budget that was submitted only few months prior to the June 2013 submittal.
