Chairman of the Abia state chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr. Prince Nnanna Ukaegbu says the party is focused to win the November 16, 2013 governorship election in Anambra state.
In an interview with 247ureports.com at the party’s liaison office in Aba, Ukaegbu said APGA members across the 21 local councils of the state has been fully mobilized and prepared to return Chief Willie Obiano as the governor of Anambra state.
“We have a title to defend on the 16th of November, 2013 which is the Anambra state governorship elections. We have approached the election with unity and sense of purpose. The party is focused on victory at the poll. APGA is set to retain Anambra Government House, there are no doubts about that.
“We are the defending champion in the race and would defend it successfully. We have analyzed all our opponents and obstacles, strength and weaknesses and all that, it is in favour of APGA’s victory; there is no doubt about that. In 2003 when APGA for the first time fielded candidates for election for the governorship election in the country, people never gave us any chance and we pulled a surprise victory. Again, they said the 2003 victory was a fluke, we repeated it in 2010. Right now, for reasons best known to them, people still say we can’t make it, but I assure you APGA would retain Anambra state. Our governor has performed above board. If democracy is about the delivery of dividends; providing good governance, why won’t the people of Anambra return APGA? We have done relatively well; even our opponents acknowledge it, so why won’t they vote for us? Except if common sense and the will of the people are no longer determinants to electoral success that is the only way we can lose the Anambra election.”
He dismissed reports of alleged double registration by Obiano describing same as the handwork of APGA detractors.
Ukaegbu who is popularly known as ‘Onapuruagu’ boasted that the spirit of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu would energize APGA faithful to emerge victorious at the polls.
“We are missing our great leader, the Eze Igbo Gburu Gburu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. The important thing is that great men appear to be stronger in death than life. This is what is playing out presently. Even though Ojukwu may not be physically present, he is always with us. Some of us that have eyes see him every day in our lives, that was why when after the Appeal Court judgment we went to his tomb in Nnewi to dedicate the victory and to invoke his spirit to lead us in the November 16 Anambra state governorship election. Some of us could see him acknowledge the respect we pay to him. He is still fighting for us. We would be vindicated on November 16.”
