Information available to 247ureports.com indicates that the preparation for the Anambra 2013 may have fallen short of expectations. This is according to information emanating from the election grounds in the various communities in Anambra which reveals that a significant portion of the electorate in select regions of Anambra were not able to access their names from the voters register.
Chief among the communities affected were the communities of Idenmili North constituency where an estimated number of registered voters is pegged at 180, 000 – the highest number in Anambra State. At one of the communities inside the said LGA, Nnobi, the election materials were said to have not arrived by 2pm. At the LGA headquaters in Ogidi, the workers of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were said to have refused to release election materials – citing that they hsve yet to be paid their salaries by INEC. For this reason, the majority of the voters were not able to exercise their civil rights.
Also, at Dunukofia LGA, the home of the major PDP chieftain and political godfather to the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Tony Nwoye, was unable to locate his name in the INEC voters register. For this reason, he was unable to vote.
Interesting to note is the same mixed up register was presented to the Anambra electorate in the 2010 gubernatorial elections – when the then former president of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme was also unable to located his name from the voters register. He was not able to vote.
Governor Peter Obi won the 2010 elections with only 97, 000 votes.
Informed observers believed the election to be rigged by the APGA candidate in 2010.
