The Anambra North Traditional Rulers Council has affirmed the right of all Anambrarians to contest for the governorship of the State debunking insinuations, that traditional rulers from Anambra North Senatorial District has only endorsed candidates from the Northern part of the State for the November 16, 2013 election
Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Madukolu Odebo, Igwe Odebo of Nteje speaking on behalf of the Council further lent their support to the candidacy of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Sen. Chris Ngige assuring him that he is fully entitled to aspire for the governorship of the State having shown his capability during his earlier stint as governor of the State
Igwe Odebo who distanced the traditional rulers from partisan politics added that all the senatorial district wants is assurance of genuine participation in the politics of the state.
‘’All the talks of where the next governor should come from is mere politics, all the average Anambrarian want is a man of good intention who has the intention of all at heart. Only such a man could take the State to the desire place’’
Igwe Odebo, further affirmed that Anambra is one indivisible entirety, explaining that virtually every Anambrarian has a genealogical links to all the three zones in the State.
The traditional ruler also acknowledged the achievements of Sen. Chris Ngige when he served as governor of the State.
Igwe Odebo maintained that Ngige has proven to be the mouthpiece of Ndigbo and should not be treated with levity under any guise.
He added that as traditional rulers they are custodians of the sacred traditions of the people and therefore could not afford to be partisan and getting involved in the politics of the day.
Earlier in his remarks, Ngige told the traditional rulers numbering over twenty-one that he came to Nteje to formally inform them of his decision to run for the governorship of the State.
He argued that his decision was informed by the fact that Anambra has not done well in the last seven years under the current administration, pointing out that the health, education and security has suffered tremendously with virtually no development in the human resources sector of this departments.
