Okorocha Inspects Erosion Site

The governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has described erosion as the greatest problem that militates against the economic development of states of the South East.

Governor Okorocha who stated this while inspecting gully erosion which is threatening to cut the Umueshi Okwelle Road at a point in Amanato, decried the havoc which erosion has caused within the South Eastern states.

He said that erosion had in the past claimed a large area of farm land, economic trees and had also caused the collapse of many building, thereby rendering people homeless.

Governor Okorocha said that his administration undertook the dualization of Umueshi-Okwelle road in order to reduce the sufferings of those who use the road saying that efforts will be made to provide good drainage system along the road to ensure its stability and free flow of water.

The governor said that his administration was putting a lot of infrastructural facilities in place in order to improve the standard of living of the majority of the people and enjoined them to give protection to government property for the interest of the next generation.

Governor Okorocha said that government owed it as a duty to provide the people with security, motorable roads, interrupted water supply, qualitative education as well as enabling environment for industrialization and commercialization and said that this will not be possible when people refused to pay their taxes.

He then called on the people of the state to ensure that they pay their taxes and rates to enable his administration take them to the peak of infrastructural development.
