Wife of the Abia state Commissioner for Sports, Evangelist Esther Chigbu, who was kidnapped on the eve of her husband’s swearing in by Gov. Theodore Orji on Tuesday, 8th October, 2013, has been freed by her abductors.
Police sources .com told that 247ureports.com that the commissioner’s wife was abandoned near a village in Obingwa local Government Area of the state where she contacted her husband who mobilized to pick her up.
247ureports.com gathered that the abductors demanded a ransom in the sum of N30million but it was not confirmed if a ransom was paid to affect her release.
She was said to be driving in a Murano SUV Jeep around 8pm to a hair dressing salon located at Umuokahia community where the gunmen seized her barely a night before her husband, Chief . David Chigbu’s swearing in as Commissioner.
The timing of her abduction led to speculations that it was the handwork of political detractors of her husband.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),Abia state Police Command, ASP Geoffrey Ogbonna,, could not be reached for comments as at press time. However, a senior police officer confirmed her release.
