A septuagenarian, Chief Jacob Ikejiuba has been arraigned before an Enugu Sate Magistrate court over alleged multiple sale of two plots of land at Umu-Nwaene, Iji-Nike community, in Enugu-East local government area of Enugu state.
The suspect, 74 years, who hails from Otolo, Nnewi, in Anambra State had allegedly been a notorious land dealer who specializes in selling land that those not belong to him to unsuspecting prospective estate developers with the pretence that the land belongs to him (Jacob Ikejiuba), haven bought a piece of land in the past, within the precinct of Umu-Nwaene, Iji-Nike, Enugu-East council area.
While reeling out the 3-count charge before Justice Ejeagbasili C.O of Court 7, Magistrate court contained in Charge sheet number; CNE/236C/2013, holding in Enugu-East, in the matter between the Commissioner of Police and Ikejiuba Jacob,the prosecutor to the plaintiff, Barr. Nnadiume Awforkansi declared that the suspect in 2010, committed; “Conspiracy, punishable under section 495A of the criminal code laws of Enugu state 2004. Obtain by false pretence, the sum of 5.4 million naira punishable under section 386 of the criminal code laws of Enugu state 2004. Stealing of 5.4 million naira, punishable under section 353L of the criminal code laws of Enugu state 2004”.
Counsel to the defendant, Barr Peter Eze prayed the court to grant his client ample time to prepare for the commencement of the hearing premising his argument on his client’s ailing health.
The Judge rebuffed his plea and ordered both parties to take a date within two weeks for the commencement of the hearing.
The matter was adjourned to 5th November, 2013 for presentation of witnesses and commencement of hearing.
