The Department of State Security Services, DSS, has apprehended a fake Boko-Haram suspect operating as a repented Islamic extremist who recently converted to the Christian faith with the sole aim of currying financial gains from unsuspecting victims in Enugu.
While addressing newsmen in Enugu yesterday, the Director, DSS, Mr. Victor Duru revealed that the suspect has been going about hoodwinking innocent Nigerians using religion as his tool even as the suspect has been on the act since 2001.
Mr. Duru said: “suspect was arrested by operatives of this command on 23rd August, at Mountain of Fire and Miracles church, Zik, Avenue, Enugu. He has being going about with false testimony, deceiving people in the name of religion. He claims that he is a renounced Boko-Haram member who has converted to a Christian”.
“He started his deceitful life way back in 2001 in Christ Apostolic Church, Abuja. He lied to one of the Pastors that he was a Muslim who converted to Christian to curry sympathy and financial help. On the basis of this false claim, he has been invited by several churches, sharing his testimony and making money out of it. Among the churches he has visited are; Four Square Gospel Church, Bodeja, Ibadan, Glory Terbanacle, Bodeja, Ibadan, etc.
“Before his arrest on 23rd August, suspect claimed he was invited to Anambra by a church in Awka, Anambra state (Spoken Word Church) for a youth programme as a guest speaker. On his way back to Yola, Adamawa state on 21st August, the commercial bus he boarded broke down at 9th Miles, Enugu state. The Driver refused to refund their fares and he was stranded. He found his way to Mountain of Fire and Miracles, Zik Avenue, Enugu and solicited for financial assistance. It was in the process that our operatives picked him up” Mr Duru explained.
The suspect, Daniel Danboyi, aka, Shnaibu Rabiu, aged 35 hails from Garshi district, Kuru falls, Barkin Ladi, Local Government Area of Plateau state speaks Berom and Hausa fluently.
The suspect however confessed that he only lied to get financial assistance to enable him get transport fare back the Adamawa state haven been stranded at Awka following the brake down of the commercial bus conveying them back to the state.
