*plans to resuscitate state’s Water Corporation for quality water supply

Dr Ifeanyi Ubah has announced that the seeming intractable problems of the Anambra state Water Corporation which has rendered the outfit comatose for more than a decade now would become a thing of the past when he becomes the Anambra governor.

Dr Ubah who is the governorship flagbearer of the Labour Party(LP) in the nov 16,2013 election in the state noted that it was indeed worrisome that 22 years after the creation of the state, the state has no reliable potable water supply source. That despite being one of the key points of the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goal(MDG) the government of the state looked away from a well reticulated water supply.

He said that it was such that “most communities in Anambra now rely on streams, boreholes and other sources of untreated water for their needs. We will declare a state of Emergency on water supply in the state and also set up a panel of experts to ascertain the issues and concerns restraining the development of this sector, with a view to resuscitating the state’s Water Corporation Board”.

The standard bearer said that the dependence of the citizens on unhygienic and unhealthy sources of water supply in a 21st century Nigeria is inexplicable and regrettable, hence must be aggressively tackled.

The panel of water experts and engineers, according to Ubah will investigate the challenges and viability of all the existing water programmes, “including but not limited to Greater Onitsha, Awka, and Obizi water projects.”
