Transition Committee Chairman of Aba North local council of Abia state, Barr. Chizuru Kanu has commended Gov. Theodore Orji for his support to the Abia State Environment Protection Agency (ASEPA).

In a chat with newsmen in Aba, Kanu said the governor’s vision in creating the Aba zone of the agency has changed the face of the commercial city.

“We in Aba North local government are appreciative of the support of the governor for ASEPA. His vision of creating the Aba zone of ASEPA has paid off. Aba now wears a new look, you can see there is tremendous improvement in the area of refuse disposal. You can also see that Aba is no longer what it used to be. Before now, the disposal of refuse in Aba used to give us sleepless nights, but Gov. Orji in the wisdom, saw the need to decentralize ASEPA, created the Aba zone of the agency and appointed a deputy general manager in charge of it.

“Without fear of contradiction, the man in charge of the Aba Zone of ASEPA, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has actually lived up to expectation. The situation has proven that if the residents play their part well, everything will fall in line. You can see that there is orderliness in the refusal disposal. Even in places where we have the designated refuse disposal points, the bins are always covered with tarpaulin. Aba has regained its aesthetic value and we commend Gov. Orji for his vision.”

The council boss called on residents of the city to play their part well by disposing refuse at designated points.

“I’m appealing to the residents of Aba to ensure that they only dispose refuse at designated points. The agency has stipulated periods in which residents can dispose their refuse. They should remember that when refuse is littered everywhere, they create for themselves and the government as well because a
healthy nation is a wealth nation. When you dispose refuse at wrong places, you create health hazards. I can tell you that the disposal of refuse in drainages is the major cause of flooding in Aba and it also washed off our roads. So, ASEPA deserves commendation for what they are doing and I thank the governor for this initiative.

He also commended the efforts of the Abia State Road Maintenance Agency (ABROMA) whom he said, has done great works in the rehabilitation of roads in Aba.

“. We are also using this opportunity to thank the governor for establishing ABROMA which has brought relief to the residents of the state. He has been funding ABROMA to ensure that our roads are maintained as at when due. When we assumed office, we set out to launch ‘Operation No Pothole in Aba’. This was intended to ameliorate the suffering of motorists and other road users. We were about doing this but luckily enough in his characteristic manner, Gov. Orji intervened with the setting up of the Abia State Road Maintenance Agency (ABROMA) which is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the potholes and failed portions we have in Aba are rehabilitated. If you move around town, you will
discover that ABROMA has given a facelift to the roads in the city.”

Kanu expressed gladness that his dream of ‘Operation No Pothole in Aba’ has come to fruition because of the intervention of the governor through the road maintenance agency.
