The former Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator (Dr.) Joy Emordi, who was sacked last Friday, has scored herself high, saying that she did her best for President Goodluck Jonathan.
Emordi, in her appreciation letter to the National Assembly correspondents, said that she served Jonathan well, given the circumstances and challenges in discharging the mandate of the office.
“It is on record that while I was in office, and worked with you, no executive bill or major government policy instrument failed in the National Assembly. There was no single override of presidential veto, despite the occasional and serious face-offs between the NASS and the executive on such issues.
“Equally, 99.9 percent of all Presidential nominees – ministerial, ambassadorial and chairmen and members of commissions were confirmed by the Senate through my enormous goodwill, diplomacy, and interventions and your objective reportage of issues. Only one ministerial nominee and one commissioner were rejected on account of state politics.
“Furthermore, the 2013 budget was passed before the commencement of the fiscal year, the first time since the return to democratic rule in 1999. With the above modest achievements, I believe that I did my best given the circumstances and challenges in discharging the mandate of the office,” she said in the letter to the National Assembly correspondents on Monday.
She observed that she accomplished what she did “you not only shared my vision of diplomacy and dialogue rather than confrontation as the means of ensuring harmonious executive – legislature relations, but you partnered with my office to make them possible.”
She appreciated Jonathan for affording her the opportunity to contribute her quota to the realisation of the transformation agenda of his administration.
“I especially appreciate the tremendous support the National Assembly Press Corp gave me in the discharge of the responsibilities of my office. I pray for God’s divine wisdom, guidance and protection on in you all as you continue to discharge your responsibilities as the watchdog on the society,” she added.
