The All Progressive Congress (APC) yesterday gave a real push to the governorship bid of Senator Chris Ngige with the inauguration of its campaign committee for the Nov 16 Anambra 2014 Governorship election.
The party has also fixed October 3,2013 for kick off of the full campaign in the state. This was announced yesterday at the Emmaus House in Awka during the Inauguration of the campaign committee led by Chief George Muoghalu.
It was however hectic for the convoy of Gov Rochas Okorocha, Sen. Chris Ngige and the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who were mobbed by surging crowd of traders, Artisans, Okada riders and other avid supporters of the party in Awka as they rode to the venue. It got so difficult the entourage was forced to stop to address the crowd; which assuaged them instantly.
Members of the Local Campaign team for Ngige included, former State Chairman of ACN, Chief Amechi Obidike, Hon Gozie Agbakoba, Hon Osita Onyeka, Hon Raph Okeke, Iyom Dozie Ikedife, Hon Callista Nwachukwu and members of the state Assembly from the party.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced that the APC leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has assured of his presence for the campaign tours. He said that by November 16th, that Ngige would stand taller than any other person in the state as the victory would be APC’s.
Gov Okorocha said he was in Anambra to ensure that the bondage to which citizens of the state have been subjected all these years was broken by APC. He saw the coming the Governorship battle to be between Ngige and what he described as the Abuja forces, adding that the people of the state should not allow the forces of darkness to triumph over light.
He jocularly said, “Ngige is a true Igbo man who can not be shaken by anybody. He has no fault but the only fault he has as a person is because he is Short,” this threw the crowd into wild laughter.
He went on, “All the noise by any other political party should not scare you, we are going into this Governorship battle with red eyes, I will personally relocate to this state for this election” Okorocha said.
In a brief remark, Sen Ngige described what is going in Imo State as a revolution adding that it is what will happen in Anambra State beginning from March next year.
He said anybody who wants to contest Councillorship, Chairmanship, House of Assembly Election should move to the field for the emancipation of the state.
Ngige, who was almost in tears because of the donations from widows and the needy said “what happened today has never happened all my life in politics and this is a sign of good things for the state”.
