Imo State Government, yesterday at Umuneke-Ngor in Ngor-Okpala, has assured that it will not repatriate any destitute out of Imo State but rather will accommodate and rehabilitate them.
Imo State Deputy Governor made the statement during an inspection at a Remand Home in Umuneke-Ngor, Ngor Okpala.
Ascertaining his statement, he said he was at the Remand home to ascertain the level of work done so far since the contract to expand the structures and renovate already existing ones had been awarded for some months back.
He revealed that his involvement in the project was to speed up the completion of the home as Governor Okorocha has directed that the home should be ready in six weeks time, which he promised is achievable.
Imo Deputy however warned that Imo State Government will not tolerate making Imo State a dumping ground for destitute as it is expected that other States should reciprocate and care for one another since our country is one.
“This is needful for National cohesion where we take our brothers from other regions as our own”.
Also moving round and in an interactive session with the Head Nurse, other staff and the patients, it was revealed that the home as at yesterday was housing thirty persons after some had been taken to their various homes after rehabilitation.
However, the staff appealed for upward review of their welfare saying the hazards involved on the job is monumental.
