When the name of Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, the young energetic chief executive
of the Capital Oil Ltd, a versatile major player in the oil and gas
sectors was first mentioned in the political circle in Anambra state,
many who know him fervently prayed for their wishes to materialize.
They had variously reasoned that he has the right spirit, heart and
drive to steer the ship of the state aright at a time like this.
According to them, the state and her citizens have for so long
witnessed lack lustre leadership driven and sustained by publicity
stunts.
The prayer was eventually answered by God and he volunteered to take
up the challenge to come on a rescue mission.
His acceptance somehow leaked to some politicians as well as some
bloggers who then befuddled the internet with negative reports apparently meant to tarnish his image and social standing. He came out
unruffled. Then the big one was unleashed in the name of fuel subsidy
reports that looked as if it won’t go. But with measured steps and an
uncanny sure steps and equanimity he navigated it and come out
victorious.
A closer look shows that instead his resolve and determination and
confidence have been buoyed to a height never imagined even by his
traducers.
According to him, God has truly blessed him-from a thatch house and
apparently below average parental background, Dr Ifeanyi Uba has
broken barriers, made his mark and etched his name in solid gold
everywhere he goes in the world.
He has continued to give out scholarships to indigent and financially
incapable but bright students, sponsored major talent hunts, donated
to religious projects and other worthy causes.
Ubah had during a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC,
in Awka yesterday noted that God blessed him with riches so as to make
others smile too. That he ranks among the leading employers of labour
in the state and country. He charged the workers to join in spreading
of the party’s message and his manifesto, part of which means that
never again would the affairs of the state be left in the hands of
local, Abuja-based or international Godfathers and godmothers. And
with that, he formally handed over copies of his manifesto. He then
used the opportunity to invite them to lead him out to today’s
flag-off at the Basillica of the Most Holy Trinity Centenary field,
Onitsha.
The outing which political buffs in the state have already tagged a
‘mega rally’ promises to be an eye opener to other parties and
candidates in the election. What with the multiple award-winning
governor of Ekiti state, His Excellency, Olusegun Mimiko and the
national chairman of the party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu who are expected
to lead other chieftains of the party to anambra for the event. It
truly promises to be ground shaking, and Nnewi, Ubah hometown, Awka,
Nkpor, Ogidi, Onitsha and other neighbouring towns including Asaba
have already been bubbling in the last few days as virtually all the
hotels have been fully booked. Eateries and souvenirs sellers have
equally been busy with new stocks and designs. It was discovered that
airlines that hitherto operated only one or two daily flights to and
fro Asaba, Owerri and Enugu airports have made special arrangements to
accommodate increased number of flights at the three airports for the
week, in view of the Ifeanyi Ubah magic.
The state chairman of the party, Chief Sam Oraegbunam and the party’s
member in the state Assembly, Hon Emeka Anohu had described him in
definite terms as a political enigma, resourceful, active and
energetic world citizen. In introducing him, the chairman said, “we
are b ringing out a very youthful, energetic, resourceful and
successful youngman who has already made his mark in the world, not
just Anambra and Nigeria. He is the quality material we are bringing
tom transform Anambra state; to give the state and her citizens the
desired and required leadership it has lacked in the past 19 years of
existence.”
He saw all the national and village challenges and wars he had fought
as normal in contemporary Nigerian society where enemies of the Igbo
nation use Igbos to fight Igbos simply to sustain retardation of the
zone. But was consoled that Dr Ubah has the right mien and attitude to
navigate all such impediments and still remain focussed.
Oraegbunam said he would like to see a sweeping victory at the polls
for him as he displays an unassailable credentials in most areas
presently troubling the nation today, including industrialization, job
creation, philanthropy, transformation of social infrastructure. He
therefore want his administration to focus on its first one hundred
days tackling security, youth unemployment, revive the education,
agric and health sectors as well as embarking on massive social
infrastructure renewal, that according to him have been neglected to
rot and decay completely by successive regimes in the state.
Anohu said the LP administration would be the greatest value added to
the lives and existence of the citizens of the state. He reiterated
that Gov Mimiko has continue to cart away awards after awards of
various world bodies who have literally adopted him as the yardstick
for what Millennium Development Goal (MDG) should be. That Mimiko’s
examples have been document ads the standard now being exported to
other developed and developing nations. The lawmaker said that it is
what the dr Ifeanyi Ubah’s midas touch has come to unleash on the
state.
Ubah had noted that with an experienced and widely travelled medical
doctor-Prince Emeka Eze, a scion of the Eze N’Ukpo dynasty, as his
running mate, they would synergize ideas with other equally
well-meaning citizens to take the state to the next level in a record
time. He said he was very contented that God transformed him from his
parents’ native thatch house, near penury to a level that ranks among
the best among his peers. He said that he clearly understands the
challenges facing most households in a state where good
inter-connectivity roads, jobs, portable water, healthcare,
agriculture, electricity, sanitation and proper planning are clearly
non-existent, because he had been there.
That it was why he intends to pay the workers a living wage, create
massive employment to provide opportunities to earn a living to the
youth so as to keep them busy and away from the lures of idleness,
crimes, social maladies and prostitution.
He said that with the LP administration in power, every citizen would
be part of governance and leadership in the state. That everyone has
some useful contribution to make, always in the development t and
progress of the state.
His running mate, Dr Eze, noted that in the heat of the Boko Haram
menace in the Northern part of the country when indigenes of Anambra
state and environs became the only ones neglected and abandoned to
their grave fate after other states had evacuated their people, it was
Dr Ubah who sent in two aircrafts to airlift the surviving anambra
citizens and others out of danger zone. That he has on a number of
times used his rich contacts and connections to intervene on behalf of
anambra and Igbo people anywhere in the world without prompting.
He pointed out that just like Ubah stated, he had done a lot as an
individual, but would do so much with the leverage of an office as a
governor. He said it was reason the LP logo remain human beings,
unlike others with inanimate objects. He therefore urged citizens and
electorates to support and vote the LP massively for the total
transformation of the state.
The state chairman of NLC, Comrade Patrick Obianyo therefore appealed
to citizens to give full support to the LP so as to benefit from the
transformational plans and proposals of Dr Ubah
In his interview, the national chairman of LP Chief Nwanyanwu, said
that the Mimiko example in Ondo was just a tip of the iceberg to what
they were bringing total transformation to Anambra state. He said that
LP will never support any form of inhuman treatment or treating any
one as a second class citizen, including deportation in one’s own
native country. He sees it as a terrible policy.
