Deputy speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha has revealed how the members of the House stopped the plot by some people to remove the leadership of the lower chamber.

Speaking at his country home in Mbutu Friday, when the leaders of Mbaise nation came to mandate him to run for 2015 Imo governorship, Chief Ihedioha said that it was very difficult for any member of the House to contemplate removing the leadership.

The reason, he said, was because the House leadership emerged based on the general consent of the members.

It was based on this, he said, that those who were being used to threaten the leadership of the House were made to sign vote of confidence on the leadership.

“I want to put on record that i didnt contest for the position of deputy speaker. It was was the decision of the members of the House of Representatives that brought Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as speaker and deputy. Even when our party zoned the positions elsewhere, our colleagues compelled us to stick to their decision. They even threatened to deal with us if we allowed PDP have its way.

“And since then the House has remained united because they are seeing good leadership.

“You’ll recall that a few days ago, some people tried to make some noise(against the leadership) but they were compelled by the members to sign a vote of confidence in favour of us(himself and Tambuwal)”.

Ihedioha used the opportunity to tell his people that he was on the same page with President Goodluck Jonathan, but was quick to point out that he was not a rubber stamp nor a sycophant because ‘i have work to do. It’s only those who dont have any other work to do that will always be sycophantic’.

On the call of his people for him to run for the 2015 Imo governorship, the deputy speaker said he was humbled by the call.

He said even though the call was mandatory, he would discuss with his political associates, adding however that he would not disobey his people because the voice of the people is the voice of God.

Ihedioha promised them that his commitment to Mbaise nation would never waiver, adding that he would not disappoint them, because according to him, among all the groups that had asked him to run, they were the most serious.

Earlier, the spokesman of Mbaise people, chief Joe Ndu, said they decided to mandate him to come home and listen to their call after several meetings.

They described him as a servant leader who had used his position in the National Assembly to attract major federal projects to the state, Mbaise and his constituency in particular
