The Grand Alliance for Truth and Conscience warns former President Olusegun Obasanjo to desist from making provocative utterances that
could cause confusion and destabilize the nation.

We are irked by Obasanjo’s frequent unguided attacks on past and
present leaders in the country and urge him to grow up and be a
respectable statesman like former President Shehu Shagari, General
Abdulsalami Abubakar and General Ibrahim Babangida.
Obasanjo’s recent outburst that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar
is corrupt smacks of gross responsibility and recklessness since no
court in Nigeria has indicted him of any corrupt practices. The obnoxious pull-him-down syndrome and impunity Obasanjo elevated to an
art during his regime are no longer obtainable.

We frown at his unwarranted attack on former EFCC Chairman, Mrs.
Farida Waziri that her appointment as the anti-graft boss was
influenced by ex-Governor James Ibori long after Waziri had left
office. We wonder what Obasanjo intends to achieve by his myopic
revelation, if not insinuation even if it is true. We expect a former
president and head of state to be civil, matured, patriotic and
disciplined while speaking on sensitive national issues.

His ego and passion for being in the limelight at all cost should not
becloud his patriotism as a supposed statesman. He should also be
reminded that those who live in a glass house don’t throw stones
carelessly.

Obasanjo’s divide-and-rule tactics is the remote cause of the crisis
in the PDP he is pretending to resolve along with other elders of the
Party.

We call on the PDP leadership and stakeholders including the Atiku and
Barage led New PDP to close rank and resolve their differences in a
mature manner that will elevate party politics in Nigeria.

The crisis in the PDP should not be allowed to cause confusion in the
polity and derail our nascent democracy. Nigerians demand dividends of
democracy not carnage.

We commend security agents for the victory so far recorded in the war
against Boko Haram and urge them to intensify efforts to ride the
country of terrorism, armed robbery, kidnapping and corruption.

We commend President Goodluck Jonathan for the removal of some
Ministers and enjoin him to appoint patriotic Nigerian who will inject
new ideas in his transformation agenda that will improve the living
standards of the citizenry.

We urge INEC to sit up and conduct free, fair credible and acceptable
governorship election in Anambar State in November as a test-run of
the 2015 general election. The electoral umpire should provide a level
playing field to all the political parties contesting the election. We
enjoin the Anambra electorate to vote according to their conscience as
conscience nurtured by truth is the only antidote to rigging,
godfatherism and bad leadership in the polity.
