Bayelsa Govt To Fly Attacked Corps Member Abroad For Treatment

Arrangements have been concluded by the Bayelsa State Government to fly the
attacked 26 years old National Youths Service Corps member, Miss Folakemi
Akinbode, to abroad for medical treatment next week at a Specialist Hospital in
Montsa city in Italy.

The Ondo State born Batch A Corps member and graduate of Nursing from the
Madonna University,Elele in Rivers State, was attacked in August while
returning to the Corpers Lodge near the Niger Delta University Teaching
Hospital, Okolobori, in Bayelsa State.

The Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government (SSG),Professor Edmond
Allison-Oguru disclosed this during a visit to the hospitalized Corps Member at
the Intensive Care Unit of the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital
,Okolobiri.

The SSG who is also the Chairman of the Governing Board of the NYSC in Bayelsa
State,said though the attack on the corps member is regrettable and condemned
by the state government,the state government will continue to support the
injured Corps member as arrangement are completed for medical treatment in
Italy.

According to him,”the State Government has concluded arrangement to ensure
she receives further medical attention in Italy to avoid any form of deformity
and guarantee complete healing.We await to assure all residents,particularly
Corps members,of their safety as the state security apparatus is being enhanced
with modern gadgets to reduce crime to the nearest minimum.”

Earlier in her remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital,Dr. Onyaye
Kunle-Idowu said though the Consultant Cardiothoratic Surgeon,Professor Olu
Oshinowo,had administered treatment to ensure nerve,veins and muscular
regeneration.
