Challenges and drawbacks confronting the education sector would rank among the top priorities of the Labour Party’s Anambra State governorship candidate in the Nov 16, 2013 election, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

This was revealed at a well-attended meeting he had with about 58 professors and top academicians of Anambra origin drawn from various universities in the country, yesterday in his Nnewi home.

The university dons, under the aegis of Conference of Anambra Academicians led by Prof Au Nnonyelu, Prof Nonso Nnabuife and Prof Emeasoba, pointed out that as stakeholders in the affairs of the state, especially the education sector, they commune with the governorship candidates in the forthcoming election to discuss their plans and programme for the sector, when elected.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the group, Prof Chris Anyamene, “we are ready to interact with all the governorship candidates in the November 16 election, because we are interested in security; improvement of education services at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels.

“We want improvement and state-of-the-art equipment and services in the health sector, job creations in both the public and the private sectors in the state; improved service conditions for all civil and public servants….”

Anyamene said they want to see public servants earn commensurate salaries and allowances with their colleagues in the private sector. They also want to see that a conducive environment for commerce is created in the stat, allowing businesses to thrive.

Anyamene pointed out that the group is non political, non religious and non sectional and were very keen in interacting with the various governorship candidates and to make inputs.
