A bullet allegedly fired by Corporal Ebenezer Paul of the Eziama Division, Abia state police command has killed a 29 year old man, Friday Dimofor in Aba, Abia State.
247ureports.com gathered that three police from Eziama police Division, Corporal Ebenezer Paul, Constables Otuu James and Henry Chukwumerije had gone to No 18 Obiora road to arrest some suspected Indian hemp smokers.
On getting to the place, the three policemen arrested a young man they alleged was a hemp smoker.
The young man whose identity was not known escaped as the policemen were dragging him towards their van.
In an attempt to arrest the fleeing suspect, Corporal Paul was said to have pulled his gun and fired towards the direction of the young man. But his shot was said to have hit Dimofor, who was relaxing with members of his Obinwanne Social club at No. 18 Obiora Road.
Dimofor who hails from Agbaja village in Isiala Mbano council area of Imo state and lived at No 6 Achara Street in Ngwa road area of the commercial city was immediately rushed to a private hospital by members of his social club, the police men having hurriedly left the
scene, where he gave up the ghost.
A resident of the area who declined to have his name on print said the club members took the blood soaked Dimofor to the hospital, but he died later as the hospital management was said to have insisted on getting police clearance before he could be attended to.
Police sources at the Eziama Division which falls under Aba North local government lamented that the policemen went on an illegal duty to another Division as the scene of the incident is ten poles away from the neighboring Ndiegoro Division in Aba South local government area.
247ureports.com gathered that the killer policeman has not been seen since the day of the incident – as allegedly rushed home, hurriedly packed some of his belongings and immediately left to an unknown destination with members of his family.
When contacted, Abia Police boss, CP Usman Tilli Abubakar confirmed the incident. He said investigations are ongoing as the two of the policemen have been arrested while Corporal Ebenezer remains at large.
