The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State has accused Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of fuelling insecurity in the state to discredit the efforts of the police and other security operatives.
The party alleged it was a ploy to force the deployment of the state Police Commissioner, Mbu Joseph Mbu to another state, noting that while Amaechi was busy assuring foreign investors of peace and conducive atmosphere for investment, he was contradicting himself by alleging that security has worsened since Mbu became commissioner.
The party in a statement issued and signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the State PDP chairman, Jerry Needam said the cry of insecurity of lives and property in the state lacks terms and principle.
It said: “If there is any society that is completely free of crimes and undesirable elements there would be no need for security operatives and even among the kitchen cabinet of Governor Amaechi himself, there could be those whose dispositions pose apparent danger to order and security.”
The party said the police under Mbu have been active and challenged those alleging insecurity to point to any other state where the police have performed better.
