The gradual but steady disintegration of governance – law and order in the oil producing state of Rivers appears an ordeal a far end in sight. Information available to 247ureports.com reveals further evidence that the unfolding imbroglio in Rivers State may not have to do with the supposed fractured relationship between the President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebelemi Jonathan and the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

As gathered through competent sources operating in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, President Jonathan had decided to bow to the mounting pressure mounted by the many quarters and political stakeholders calling for the removal or transfer of the Commissioner of Police in River State, Mr. Mbu. The Police Commissioner had been fingered as one of the principal precipitators of the unrest in Rivers State. He is said to be acting in cohorts with the opposition in the State. This is according to security sources.

Following the efforts by select State Governors at reaching a peaceful reconciliation between the presidency and the River State government, a meeting was arranged between the River State Governor and Mr. President. At the meeting, the Governor of Rivers State was said to have tallied his conditions for the return of calm to the state.

Amongst the list of items tabled by the Governor was the removal or transfer of the Police Commissioner out of the State. The President was said to be amiable to some of the request – particularly the request for transfer. Our source reveals that the President had noted on a piece of paper the transfer of the Police Commissioner – as a to-do item.

President Jonathan was to remove the Police Commissioner in Rivers State and replaced him with the Police Commissioner in Imo State, Mr. Mohammed Katisna. It is not sure where Police Commissioner in Rivers State was scheduled to go.

However, as the President signaled for the appropriate authorities to relay the decision down the ranks, the 1st Lady was alerted of the unfolding transfer. Our source stated that the 1st Lady was livid and unwilling to allow Governor Amaechi have his way. She made her mind known to Mr. President, her husband without ‘biting her words’.

In what seemed like a last minute maneuver, the President reversed his order for the removal of Police Commissioner, Mbu out of Rivers State.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Police, Mr. Frank Mba failed – as numerous calls placed to his mobile phone were not answered.
