Residents of Kano who are still grappling with the effects of last Monday’s multiple explosions that killed many in the Sabon Gari area of the state woke Saturday morning with the tragic news oo Malam Ali Harazumi Hamisu who hung himself out of hunger and frustration.

The man whose two wives separated from him because he could no longer take care of their needs, lost source of living early this year when Kano state government banned commercial motorcyclists.

The state government worried over incessant terrorists attacks by gun men on motor-bike which claimed several lives, slammed a ban on the operation of commercial motorcyclists in the state.

As a result of the ban, thousands of people, mostly youths who depended on it for means of livelihood became jobless.

While many took the option of shifting base to states like Jigawa, Katsina and Kaduna where the business thrive, and others elected to look for other jobs, Ali whose efforts to secure a job failed him, hung himself when his wives deserted him.

Residents of Jaen Layin Makera, a community in the outskirts of the city, where he resided before his tragic end expressed surprise at the development and described the late Ali as a quite and peace-loving man.

“We were surprise Hamisu could go to the extent of taking his own life. He was such a quite and peace-loving man. Things went so bad for him when they banned commercial motorcyclist. He could not find alternative means of livelihood. He had been doing menial job to sustain his family. He must have taken that option out of frustration,” a resident said.

His elder brother, Alhaji Yakubu Hamisu, narrated that: “The late Ali had separated from his wives and was unable to pay for his house rent due to the loss of his job. His wives had to divorce him because he could no longer take care of their needs. I tried my best to help him but my earnings are so menial to sustain my family and carter for his own needs.

“I feel so bad that my brother ended it all in this tragic manner. It is a big stain to the family name and Allah forbids it; however, I pray that Allah forgive him his sins and grant him eternal blessings.”
