It was a fanfare galore in Lafia,the Nasarawa state capital yesterday when the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha paid homage to the Governor of Nasarawa state, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and the chairman Nasarawa state council of chiefs, Alhaji Dr, Isa Mustapha Agwai (ll).
The Governor described the fifteen (15) years of the incarceration of the former Intelligence officer as an act of God. – stating that the Almighty God has a reason for the predicament Al Mustapha found himself. “Al-Mustapha served this nation (Nigeria) with heart and might”. Gov. Al Makura indicated that the late release of Al Mustapha was a major setback of our Judiciary.
Governor Al-Makura commended Al-Mustapha for his perseverance, doggedness and resilience in jail. He stated that the fifteen years of incarceration of Al-Mustapha could have been history, saying that the main actors could have dumped him in custody until his doomsday.
The Governor described the late head of state, General Sani Abacha as a great soldier and the leader behind the creation of Nasarawa state. The Governor prayed for the surviving family of the late head of state.
Major Hamza Al-Mustapha while responding expressed delight over the mammoth crowd that turned out to give him a warm welcome. “My visit to Nasarawa state is to express my heartfelt appreciation for the support accorded me during my travails.” “Nasarawa state is another home because we have our traditional rulers and spiritual leaders here“.
He applauded the Governor for indoctrinating the principle of “The people’s Governor” (Gwannan Talakawa) Praying that the wishes and prayers for the creation of Nasarawa state will come to pass. “I pray that the state will prosper while her mineral resource will blossom”, said Al-Mustapha.
