With the 2015 presidential election approaching amidst the buildup of uproar within opposition quarters, new emerging information indicates that the presidency has become highly preoccupied by the politics of 2015 – to the point that all policy matters have been placed on hold in return for the mechanizations of Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] primaries of 2015. It is to this extent that the Jonathan led governor’s forum – following the recently flop of their latest meeting – made a sudden turnaround in the war stance with the Amaechi led governor’s forum.
Information made available to 247ureports.com indicates that the sudden turnaround in demeanor towards the Amaechi group concerns Jonathan’s weariness of the loyalty from the entire governors of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP]. The information emerged following closed door chitchat between two Senators from the President’s home state, Bayelsa – over the weekend in Abuja. The Senators had shared the President’s concerns over his fear with the governors’ support for his upcoming 2015 presidential bid. According to the Senators, the President believes that – from the look of things – none of the Governors are ‘really’ behind him.
Seconding the confidential views shared by the Senators was the minister for the Niger Delta Affairs – Honorable Orubebe who was quoted as telling a major stakeholder from Bayelsa State that the President has lost all confidence in his ability to pull any of the governors to his side. In the words, “the President is not sure of any of the governors expect Dickson and Uduaghan”.
The top source from Bayelsa State who spoke to 247ureports.com in Abuja pointed to the latest development between Jonathan’s factions of the Governor’s Forum and Amaechi’s as symptomatic of the dwindled trust between the governors and the President. “The President believes if the elections were held today the governors will not work to elect him. In fact, they will work to undermine him” said the source who presently is a staunch Jonathan supporter and involved participant in the Jonathan 2015 pre-campaign activities.
The source continues to add that the President believes he can only count on the Governors of Bayelsa [Dickson] and Delta [Uduaghan] States for real support. The rest of the others, “he is unsure”.
