Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has chided the ruling political party at the echelon of affairs – the People’s Democratic Party – for destroying the tenet of the nation’s democratic process.
The Governor stated this while addressing members of the three merged political parties – Congress for Progressive Change, the Action Congress of Nigeria and the All Nigerian People’s Party at Government House today.
“the PDP has deviated from the core value of democracy ,the All Progressive Congress is out to serve the nation from the clutches of misrule under the PDP controlled Federal Government which hold the country for ransom” said Governor Al-Makura.
He said the new party is out to redirect the affairs of the country by salvaging the nation from the hands of misguided rulers – adding that democracy was soiled by the PDP in the last thirteen years of steering the baton of leadership at the Centre.
“The motive of APC is to salvage this nation through legitimate mandate.” The APC is to change Nigeria for the better, he said while adding that the merger and the registration of the political parties is symbolic of a true patriots.
He added that “before at the Federal Executive Council meeting I remain an orphan but now we are eleven Governors in the APC”. He called on members of the different political parties to remain united, focused and committed towards achieving the main objective of the merger process by sending away the PDP from the corridor of power.
Governor Al-Makura also appealed to all members of the APC to shun all frictions that divide them. The new party shall consider every individual on his individual merit and would consider every member as a stakeholder. He sued for unity, “we should be like a cup of tea that cannot be separated”. He advised members of APC to focus their searchlight on grass root campaign.
“We will only build a robust and vibrant political party by going back to the grass root to mobilize our supporters ahead of the forthcoming council poll”.
Also, the then state chairman of the defunct ACN, Barrister Jabiru described APC as best luck to Nigeria democracy – saying the coming together and the registration of different political parties will strengthen democracy and the democratic institution. He also thanked Governor Al-Makura for his immense contribution towards the successful registration of APC.
