Anambra Election: Diaspora Group Canvasses For Aguata-Orumba Governor

Ahead of Anambra State governorship election slated for November this financial year, Aguata-Orumba community residing in the United States of America after its 7th bi-annual convention held in Houston Texas rose up from the convention canvassing for the next governor to come from Aguata-Orumba community of the state.

The convention with the theme, “Our Vision, Our Time”: Instructive for us to reclaim our place in contemporary Anambra state politics was graced by the the Deputy Governor of our state, Mr. Emeka Sibeudu and people from the local community.

In his opening remarks, the National President, Sir Chris Okpalaezecha from Akpo, said that the convention theme ” Our Vision, Our Time” was quite appropriate given the current election season in the state that Aguata-Orumba region deserved a “full term” in the Governorship mantle.

According to him, there was need to rekindle their collective commitment to community service, a cornerstone for more rapid progressive development of our region.

Earlier in his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State , Mr. Emeka Sibeudu, applauded the group’s collective efforts in sustaining their cultures and values despite the challenges and conflicts of values children born over there face..

He pleaded that the group continues to sustain Igbo culture and values in diaspora, adding that children must be part of that effort to ensure the eternal relevance of their.culture.

Part of the resolutions adopted at the convention will include:

*To form and sustain effective partnership with stakeholders of AOU at the homeland to ensure cross-fertilization of ideas and strategies for political and economic development of our region.

*To expand and strengthen the AOU-USA chapters, counting on a strong and united force in North America to be a motivating influence in reenergizing the moribund old AOU at the homeland.

*Well-meaning stakeholders from Aguata-Orumba region should, without delay, articulate cohesive and sustainable strategies which should result in producing the next Executive Governor of the state from Aguata-Orumba region.

Meanwhile, after a well-run election of officers to the executive committee and Board of Directors, Nze Chukwuemeka Ezeonwu of Ekwulobia was elected the new President of AOU-USA while Dr. Daniel Onyeagba became the Vice President.

Others include Darlington Emenike, National Secretary, Maria Okpala, Financial Secretary, Uche Onuogu, Treasurer, and Sunday Nwajagu, P.R.O.

Members of Board of Directors will include , Francis Nwafor, MD , Ralph Obijiofor, Prof. Nick Muoneke, Amaka Ogunedo and Osita Aka
