A director of the Fidelity Bank Plc, Chief Maduabuchi Willie Obianor, yesterday clinched the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA for the Nov 16, 2013 election in Anambra state.
Obianor, a late entrant was said to have been well favored by the outgoing governor Peter Obi, being a known longtime pal and ally of his.
Curiously, the national chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh was conspicuously absent at the primary election which took place at the Women Development Centre in Awka.
However, the event which was chaired by a former running mate to Senator Chris Ngige’s-Chief Phil Agbasiwas witnessed by a members of the party’s Board of Trustees, Dr Tim Menakaya, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain and wife of the late leader of the party, Chief Mrs Bianca Ojukwu. Also in attendance was a onetime Commissioner for Special Duties and son to Ojukwu, Emeka Ojukwu.
Obianor said its not a personal victory but that it belongs to all. Pledged to continue with the good works of Obi. Urged every member and citizen of the state to join hands with him so as to take the state to the next level. He said he was very humbled with the victory and confidence reposed in him by the people.
Obianor his valedictory primary speech urged every member to join hands to lift the lofty ideals of the party to ensure that Anambra remain an APGA state.
To clinch the ticket, Obianor polled 817 votes, his closest and member of the House of Reps- Uche Ekwunife polled 150.
Paul Odenigbo 49 votes, and Emeka Nwogbo 22 votes; Mr John Nwosu scored 18 votes while Mr. John Emeka whose withdrawal was turned down for his absence scored one score any vote and 16 votes were voided.
