The abandoned Hadejia sugar factory which was sold to the family of late general sani Abacha will fully commence operation early 2015. This was disclosed by the technical director Alhaji Umar Sanda while revisiting the site of the sugar factory in Hadejia saying that if all things work according to their plan, the Multi billion Naira Hadejia Sugar Manufacturing Company owned by the eldest Son of the late military junta General Sani Abacha would commence full operations next year.
The Technical Director of the Company, Alhaji Umar Sanda while taking members of the State Advisory Council on Economic Management and Investment committee around the site yesterday stated that ever since they acquired the property a lot of refurbishing and repairs of the neglected equipment were done. He told the Council that the management of the company had imported new equipment so as to raise the status of the Company to compete favorably in the competitive market.
“We see our reliance on the obsolete equipment as counterproductive and that is why we resolve to improve on them and supply new ones for better results” the technical Director said. He continued that so far the Hadejia Jama’are had leased about One Hundred hectares of Land to the Sugar Company where it is currently nursing Sugar cane seedlings.
He said an additional Four Thousand hectares of land would be required for onward transplanting of the Sugar cane seeds. He said with this development, over Seven Hundred and Fifty Six adhoc workers have been recruited to carry out different functions at the farm for improved productivity.
He said when completed it would gainfully give employment to over Two thousand five Hundred indigenes both skilled and unskilled.
Speaking earlier the Chairman of the Council who is also a one-time minister of Power and Steel Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu said the reason why the Committee had chosen the Hadejia Sugar factory project as its first port of call is due to its large size. “We are here as representatives of the State government to identify all the needs of the existing companies in the State and see how to assist them”.
