The sins of Nigeriaโs international award-winning music video producer Aswad Ayinde have finally caught up with him,ย culminating into 90 years in jail.
ย
Last Friday, a New Jersey court in the United States once moreย lowered the hammer on disgraced Ayinde, who won an MTV award forย directing The Fugeesโ Killing Me Softly, after agreeing withย prosecutors that he repeatedly raped his daughters to create a โpureโย bloodline that would survive Doomsday. Many of the rapes took place inย an abandoned funeral home. He even delivered the babies himself in a bid to keep his depraved plot secret.
Ayinde, 55, fathered six children with his daughters from theย mid-1980s until 2002. He also had nine children with his former wife,ย Beverly, and amother three with two other women in Brooklyn, accordingย to court documents.
ย
Reporting on his conviction, northjersey.com said:
As Aswad Ayindeโs daughter stood up to speak, the judge ordered himย to put down the court papers he was hunched over and face the daughterย he had assaulted and raped since she was 8 years old, fathering her four children.
โI canโt describe how much you hurt me and my sisters,โ the daughter, now 35, said Friday to her father, shackled in a prison jumpsuit, hisย head still bowed, eyes never once meeting hers.
ย
As the woman rehashed the horrors her father inflicted on her and her sisters in Paterson, Ayinde burst out, โYou shouldโve told the truthย instead of lying,โ bringing an admonishment from Superior Court Judgeย Raymond Reddin, who told him that not only did he believe the daughterโs testimony, but also so did the 12 jurors who convicted him.
ย
Ultimately, the daughter said she forgave her father and hoped at some time heโd repent.
โBut obviously, with your head down like that, you do notย understand,โ she said, three of her sisters fighting tears in theย courtroom pews.
ย
After the daughter finished, Reddin on Friday tacked on 50 years toย the 40-year prison sentence Ayinde, 54, received in 2010 after beingย convicted of raping another of his daughters, who bore a fifth child.
The former music producer and self-proclaimed prophet faces threeย more trials for allegedly sexually assaulting three other daughtersย after requesting separate trials.
Prosecutors have said that Ayinde dominated his children as aย god-like prophet who wanted to create a race that carried his pureย bloodline. Over the years, he molested five of his seven daughters andย fathered six children, the family and their attorney said.
ย
By about 2001, the family had mostly split up, Ayinde โbouncingย around,โ but still in reach of his family, the daughter said. In 2003,ย he tried to rape her for the last time.
โThat was it. โฆ I just felt stronger,โ she said.
Yet, it wasnโt until she and her sisters learned that Ayinde hadย fathered more children with other women that they decided to go to theย authorities in 2006.
ย
โWe found out we had other siblings, young siblings, and we had toย put him to a stop,โ the daughter said after the sentencing hearing.ย โEven though we were healing, they could still fall victim.โ
ย
These days, the sisters stay in close touch. The daughter who spokeย Friday is studying communications at Essex County College โ โstraightย Aโs last semester,โ she said โ and has just finished a memoir. As forย her four children, two have genetic illnesses that doctors told herย likely were due in part to the incest. A 9-year-old daughter died inย 2010 of spinal muscular atrophy.
ย
In sentencing Ayinde, Reddin could not hide his disgust for what he had done.
ย
โBy 13, most fathers are taking their daughters to the park โฆย teaching them to ride a bike,โ he said. โYou took her in the bedroom and repeatedly raped her to complete your disgusting, revolting fantasies.โ
