A former senator, who represented Ekiti North and governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Ayo Arise, has condemned yesterday’s invasion of the State Secretariat of the party by thugs suspected to be working for one of the goversnorship aspirants, describing it as dangerous for the party and the State.
Arise, in a statement issued today, said he was highly embarrassed when he heard of the invasion of the party secretariat by gun-wielding hoodlums and called for restrain on the part of the party’s governorship aspirants.
The statement read; “Seeing pictures of members of the State party Exco that were attacked and brutalised yesterday in the newspapers today saddened my heart because I believe we should all be working for the overall good of the party, not carrying out actions that can destroy the party and make it look like a party of rascals in the eyes of members of the public.
“How on earth can you unleash terror on members of your party and expect to fly the flag of that party?
“Would those you have inflicted injuries on be the ones to campaign for you and the party if per adventure you are picked as the party candidate?
“Honestly, what happened at our party secretariat in Ekiti yesterday is to say the least animalistic and barbaric, and should be condemned by all lovers of the party.
“Those who masterminded and carried out the barbaric act must be sanctioned by the party and the earlier they are sanctioned appropriately the better for the party and its image.”
Arise, who urged that leaders of the party should eschew personal interest and save the party from collapse, said; “What we should all do now is to jettison our personal interest and rally round to resolve the party crises so that we can regain power in the State next year.”
