I’m For Peace, Untity, Says Abe

Three key backers of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, Hon. Dakuku Peterside and Hon. Andrew Uchendu risk being suspended by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State chapter over what it’s leadership call “deliberate acts of indiscipline and disrespect to the party.”

The party said issued the threat because they were making “unguarded statements and taking divisive actions” noting that such were no longer acceptable.

The three lawmakers have stood solidly behind the Governor right from the beginning of the political crisis rocking the state, and were instrumental in the decision of the National Assembly to take over the activities of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The party’s chairman, Hon. Felix Obuah says the party would no longer tolerate their “malicious” which he noted were aimed at dragging the party’s name in the mud.

He accused the trio, and some others of fuelling the crisis instead of joining the party’s leadership to resolve it.

Obuah, who stated this in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Jerry Needam, said the party could no longer tolerate their actions, which he noted were “creating dissatisfaction between the party and the general public.”

He said that Article 9 of the party’s constitution frowns at any act that will portray the party in bad light including publishing or distributing to the media, any material which purports to be the view of any faction or tendency within the party etc.

“We therefore enjoin all our party members to be wary of the temptation to challenge the supremacy of the party, as not heeding this advice certainly carries dire consequences,” he said.

But in a swift reaction to the threat, Abe said he has the right to contribute in taking the party to the path of growth and unity.

Abe, who reacted in a statement through an aide, Hon. Gomba Olaka, said that as a leader of the party at the State and National levels, he has always promoted peace and unity in the party and the state.

He urged those threatening him name the arrowheads of the crisis in the State House of Assembly.

“It is clear to Rivers people that the removal of Mbu Joseph Mbu as the Rivers State Commissioner of Police will not only bring peace, but reduce crime in the state. We are shocked to hear/imagine that PDP is behind Mbu’s reaction to the extent that a serving Senator will be threatened with suspension for calling for Mbu’s removal.

Perhaps, the entire National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should be sacked or suspended for calling for Mbu’s removal as Police Commissioner of Rivers State.
