Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha is set to include more South
Easterners into his New Cabinet, Owelle Okorocha said that this is the
surest way to promote Igbo Unity among people of the South East.
Governor Okorocha made this promise during an Interactive session with
professional in Imo State at the Ahiajoku Convention Centre New
Owerri.
Governor Okorocha said, that everybody in the South East belongs to
the Igbo ethnic tribe and it is imperative for anyone who wants to
promote Igbo unity to involve them in his administration. He urged all
governments in the South east to include persons from other states of
South east into their Cabinet, stressing that states and geographical
divide should not be a barrier to appointment of any prominent Igbo
son or daughter into Cabinet of any government.
He said that his past Cabinet included people from Abia, Enugu Anambra
and Ebonyi states and they served creditably, and therefore called on
all governors in the South East to take a general approach to the
issue of Igbo Unity, by practical demonstration in their appointment
“I wish to be an Igbo leader not a sectional leader, states and
geographical difference should not be an impediment to the National
goals of Ndi Igbo.
The Governor who said, issue of Igbo Unity is imperative, especially
during this political dispensation; saying that all effort should be
geared towards the integration of Igbo race.
He blamed the political problem of Ndi Igbo to disunity among Igbo
politicians “we used to be No. 3, we used to be one of the tripods
that hold this Nation together, but now, we are no 7. No Igbo person
occupies the office of the president, Vice President, Senate
president, speaker House of Representatives, Chief Judge or the
chairman of the ruling party, and observed that it is a disadvantage
to Ndi Igbo.
Owelle Okoroha therefore called on all Igbo sons and daughters to
unite together towards the progress of Ndi-Igbo and give Ndi Igbo
their pride place on the scheme of things in the nation’ s politics.
