The Government of Nasarawa state in a frantic step to meet up to the 2015 UNESCO target of education for all has awarded contract for the construction of thirty nine (39) model schools cut across the length and breadth of the state, Yakubu Ahmed has stated.
Nsubeb secretary disclosed this in a chat with our reporter. He pointed out that the state Government has concluded arrangement by awarding contract to successful bidders,He said the motive for the establishment of model school was to encourage the enrolment of all school age in the state.
He stated that every Local Government will get three (3) model schools each – which he said are storey building.
Yakubu Ahmed while giving the breakdown of the progress report of Nsubeb in two (2) years affirmed that two hundred and thirty (213) classroom block were constructed in One hundred and forty four (144) schools. Ahmed obliged that Nsubeb commits whooping N1bn for the construction of sixty thousand (60,000) desk – saying the attempt was meant to addressing the rot in Junior secondary and primary schools in the state. He said part of the desk has since been distributed to the benefiting schools.
He also listed some of the achievement recorded to the training and retraining of 4,512 headteachers,supervisors and teachers ,He said the measures were to nip the presence of unqualified teachers by the bud.
Yakubu Ahmed stated that the state under federal teachers scheme is to engaged the service of Federal Teachers Scheme (FTS) saying the step will also curb the shortage of teachers,He added that only holders of National Certificate of Education (NCE).
