Information available to 247ureports.com reveal that the continued insecurity in the north central state of Nasarawa State may not be over โ€“ judging by the recent unfolding activities within military setup staged in Nasarawa following the mysterious slaughter of security officers at Eggon community earlier in the year. Competent sources knowledgeable of the activities within the security setup in Nasarawa State reveal that a surprise attack is imminent. โ€œThe leader of the Ombatse prayer group is wanted deadโ€, said the source.

Already, the military apparatus deployed by the federal government to ensure security in the north east area of Nasarawa State where Eggon is situated is said to have begun heavy patrol of the community โ€“ with armored vehicles and other war-machineries. While patrolling, the military officers โ€“ working in tandem with the police in Nasarawa State โ€“ have begun making arrests of people it believes may have played a role in the killing of the security officers. This is as the 9-man committee setup by the Governor of Nasarawa State, Malam Al Makura, to investigate the killings of the over 100 security officers at Eggon community โ€“ are still yet to conclude their assigned task.

As gathered, the governor of Nasarawa State who had set up a 9-man committee to probe into the killings of the over 100 security officers in Eggon by unknown gun men โ€“ charged the committee to fish out the culprits and to make recommendations on the way forward. While setting the committee, the governor pointed direct blame at the Ombatse prayer group โ€“ thus declaring to the committee what the final findings of the committee will be. One of the members of the Ombatse prayer decried the governorโ€™s actions in pointing the committee their way โ€“ as the responsible culprits. In his words, โ€œwhy form the committee if he already knows the culprits โ€“ the governor has other motives for forming the committee. We have asked President Jonathan to form a committee โ€“ not Governor Al Makura. He is involved and so cannot be impartialโ€.

Recent findings by 247ureports.com indicate however that the governor of Nasarawa State, Malam Al Makura may have more than veiled reasons for wanting to point the attention of the 9-man committee to the Ombatse prayer group as the responsible party for the killings of the said security agents.

Prior to mounting the executive seat as the governor of Nasarawa State, Malam Al Makura, according to officials of the Ombatse prayer group, was an active member of the prayer group. He was a solid financial member of the group. He provided financial help to group in exchange for โ€œtraditional prayersโ€. The prayers were said to possess potent powers. The Ombatse officials indicated that the relationship between the group and Governor Al Makura stretches to over 7 years. โ€œWe are prepared to provide evidence to the group of Al Makuraโ€™s membership and financial contributions to the group to the 9-Man committee โ€“ when the rime comesโ€, said a high ranking official of the prayer group.

The ranking official of the prayer group continued to add that before the deadly fortune befell the over 100 security officials at Eggon, the governor had arranged for a gang of thugs bused in from neighboring Kogi State โ€“ numbering over 100. The thugs were hired from an emerging terror group in Kogi State โ€“ and armed by the police top boss stationed in Nasarawa. The arms/guns belonged to the police. And as the Kogi state thugs arrived Eggon community to slaughter the Ombatse prayer group and their leader โ€“ as ordered by the Governor, they met their waterloo. They did not make it. They were killed and they weapons seized.

With the weapons seized, the top police boss found themselves in a bind. The seized weapons belonged to the Nigeria police and had to be accounted for. In order to retrieve the weapons, the Nasarawa top police boss called his men into action to drive into the Eggon community to retrieve the said weapons. But an interesting thing occurred as the top police boss prepared for the attack on the sleepy community, the top police boss kept the destination a secret from the group of police officers and other security agents attached to the group. The destination was only revealed as the security convoy neared the entrance to the Eggon community.

According to another member of the prayer group who spoke in confidence to 247ureports.com, the said attack by the security officials were not unrelated to the said attacks by the nomadic Fulanis into their community. The source indicated that over 249 residents of Eggon had been murdered by the said nomadic Fulanis. โ€œWe have living among us Fulanis who are not nomads. They were also killed by the said nomads. From all the intelligence available to us, the attacks are not coming from the said nomadsโ€.

The source attributes the attacks to Governor Al Makuraโ€™s intent to destroy the prayer group owing to internal disagreement between the Governor and the prayer group. As gathered, prior to the becoming the governor of Nasarawa State, Al Makura had asked the prayer group to perform traditional rites to enable him win the gubernatorial election, and the group obliged and performed the rites and rituals. But the governor was told by the prayer group that they would perform the rituals on the condition that he would hand over the mantle of leadership to the Eggon people after one-term in office. Al Makura was said to have agreed to the condition.

But the agreement appeared not to hold months after Al Makura mounted the seat of governor. The governor, as a result, became determined to exterminate the group โ€“ after he was told that the group would begin performing ritual rites for his eventual ejection from office. The official of the ritual group revealed that the Fulani attacks ensued following the governorโ€™s desire to eradicate the group.

One of the police widows who lost her husband to the deadly clash in Eggon told 247ureports.com on the day the thugs from Kogi rode into Eggon community to attack the prayer group โ€“ that a young girl [aged about 12years] was seen carrying a smoking clay pot on her head โ€“ leading the way into Eggon community. โ€œShe was killedโ€, she said โ€“ adding also that the Governor knows about the attacks on the community โ€“ including the said attacks from the nomads.

It is for this reason that the President of the Eggon Community [ECDA], Chris Manman told 247ureports.com that the 9-man committee constituted by the Governor of Nasarawa State as unfit to probe the deaths of the security official at Eggon community. He called on the federal government to play the role of an impartial investigator โ€“ especially since the slain security officials were federal agents and not State agents. He pointed to Governor Al Makura involvement with the group as reason enough to bar the governor from being the person in charge of the investigation. โ€œWe are afraid the governor wants to roast usโ€. He continued to add that โ€œhow can we be asked to present ourselves to the 9-man committee when the security officials have begun arresting us. How are we to appear before the committee nowโ€?

In talking with a top ranking member of the police in Nasarawa State, he denied that the security agents in Nasarawa State are planning a surprise attack on the people of Eggon. He indicated that if the security agents were to attack the group โ€“ that they would have done it immediately following the killings of the security agents. He however admitted that the security official have begun making arrests of those believed to be members of the prayer group.
