Slowly turns the wheel of justice, so the popular saying goes. That would turn out very correct if the wishes of a non-governmental political pressure group under the aegis of the Anambra Multi-Party Coalition for Ngige 2014 sails through.
So, at the tenth year anniversary luncheon held at the Marble Arch Hotels, Awka by friends and associates of Dr Chris Ngige on Wednesday to commemorate the July 10, 2003 abduction of the then governor, they called on the relevant authorities to move in at once to prosecute the perpetrators.
They had lamented that the perpetrators of the dastardly act had all the past ten years still walk freely without prosecution.
The group contended that if the crime was allowed to be swept under the carpet, it would be setting a negative precedence and institutionalizing brigandage as part of the nation’s contemporary political history.
Addressing reporters at the Marbel Arch Hotel venue for the 10th anniversary luncheon to celebrate the Liberation day, chairman of the coalition Chief Ben Oranusi, a former Orumba South LGA chairman noted that
“This is ten years that these people committed this crime and ever since nobody has been persecuted for abducting a sitting governor. We cannot go on like this. People must account for their sins against the state and the society”.
According to him, “These people today walk about the streets freely without fear and nobody is talking about it and they have not been prosecuted. The federal government should not allow such illegalities thrive in our country. One wonders if Anambra State is a now a banana republic”.
He stated that the gathering was a time for sober reflection on the growth and development or otherwise, of Anambra state, adding that the coalition is also celebrating itself for standing behind Ngige from the day he left office as governor till date.
Similarly in a release Senator Ngige who represents Anambra Central zone, used the opportunity to announce that he has concluded consultations over the 2013 gubernatorial election, noting that due to pressures from well-meaning citizens of the state, he has offered himself to serve the state in any capacity they need him.
Hear him, “Considering the barrage of request from well-meaning people of Anambra origin, this July 10 2013 will mark the end of consultation and ruminations on whether to run or not. But in all I rededicate myself serving them in any capacity they deem fit. God bless the land of Anambra people”.
Also speaking the secretary of the multi party coalition, Chief Uche Okonkwo Okom noted that the liberation of Anambra State on July 10th 2013 was as a result the risk Ngige took to salvage the state adding that come March 16 2014, Ngige would return to the government house Awka to complete the good works he started.
