The South East Caucus of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) rose in Umuahia this evening resolving, to passing a vote of confidence on Senator (Dr) Chris Ngige, Leader of the Party in the zone for what they called ‘Ngige’s heroic sacrifices in seeing the APC merger promotion thus far’ which has seen him bring stakeholders, from APGA, ANPP, ACN and DPP, CPC in the South East into the new mega party, breaking all partisan barriers and placing all on equal footing in the interest of the zone’.
This according to the zonal party leaders, ‘turns a new leaf in the politics of the South East, and is consistent with the resolution of the former governor in Anambra State between 2003 and 2006,which has been emulated by many others coming into office as governors particularly Owelle Rochas Okorocha.’
In the view of the caucus as expressed in a motion for ‘Vote of Confidence ‘ on Senator Ngige,articulated by Barrister Felix Okafo from Enugwu State Chapter and seconded by Moses Onuora from Abia Chapter, The selfless leadership and sacrifice from Senator Ngige has ensured that today Ndigbo are adequately represented in the Interim National Executive of the APC,there are all calibre of quality Ndigbo working together and articulating the views leading to the progress of Ndigbo together, irrespective of their original party lines and there is hope to Ndigbo will form part of the presidency in the near future’
Out of the 18 offices in the APC Interim National Executive Committee, four are occupied by the South East. The Officers are Senator Annie Okonkwo-Deputy National Chairman (South), from APGA, Senator Osita Izunaso of APGA, Chief Uzoma Igbonwa, ACN as Assistant Organising Secretary and Chief Nyerere of ANPP.
The meeting was presided over by Rev. George Nwadike, Zonal Secretary who stood in for Dr Chudi Nwike kidnapped and murdered National vice Chairman of the party who was also the former Deputy Governor of Anambra State. Nwike was kidnapped in March and murdered in April and buried in June 2013.The meeting which read the minutes of the last meeting presided over by Nwike observed a minute silence in his honour.
The leaders drawn from all states of the South East also declared the caucus also resolved to declare the coming of Okorocha into the APC as a blessing to the APC Stakeholders, the South East and Nigeria.
The caucus adopted the resolution proposed by the Imo State chapter of the Zone that Ngige should convey their message of solidarity to the Imo State Governor that with the unification of ACN ,APGA and other parties in the merger,ACN identifies with the progress made by Okorocha’s government in uplifting the human and infrastructural development in Imo State and wish celebrates the advent of Okorocha’s renewed vigour to attain greater achievement under an APC government in Imo State going forward.
The party therefore pledged to lend all support possible to Okorocha in his quest to see a new Imo State, while urging the governor and prominent APC leader to reciprocate the sacrifices and support for ACN ,which stood steadfastly stood as an opposition party ,co-operating with other in the dislodgement of the retrogressive PDP government in Imo State’
The party also resolved that the party executive elected by the 2010 congress of the party remains the authentic and recognised State Executive for Abia State Chapter of the party till final dissolution expected after the registration of the APC.
Senator Ngige had earlier provided the zonal meeting with an insider update on the progress made towards the registration of the APC and the projections of the new party to the satisfaction of the zonal leaders.
Thanking Senator Ngige who has led CAN in the South East since 2006, Rev Nwadike was greeted with a loud and long applause, when he asked Ngige to ‘go back to ‘Anambra and prepare to return to the government House in Awka, whether you like it or not’ adding that ‘You can choose who your wife is, you can choose your frieds, but you cannot choose who your son is’.
