The Rivers State Chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN has set up a two man delegation to meet with the national officers of the party over their varying positions on the embattled Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State.
The officers are the state leader of the party, Dr Abiye Sekibo and Kenneth Kobani, National Treasurer from the state.
This is sequel to the State Exco meeting with all prominent members of the party Sunday, May 2, 2013 which centered on the unilateral resolve by the ACN National to identify with, and work for the interest of Gov Amaechi who is entrapped in an intractable Peoples Democratic party, PDP crisis that tends to consign him into political irrelevance.
The state chapter of the party is aggrieved that Gov Amaechi who has left no stone unturned in marginalizing the opposition parties in the state, notably the ACN and unleashed all manner of persecutions against the party and its members including its state leader, Dr Abiye Sekibo, during and after the April 26, 2011 general elections could easily warm himself into the party without the knowledge and, or consulting the state chapter of the party.
ACN members accused Asuwaju Bola Tinubu of betrayal after building the party to a strong, reliable opposition party in the state.
They further pointed out that they cannot work with Gov Amaechi in APC rather they will return back to PDP, where they originally belonged.
The ACN members narrated how they were kept outside for several hours during the closed door meeting between Gov Amaechi and Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ikeja.
According to them it was the shocker of their lives when Tinubu, after several hours, called them to meet with Amaechi.
The state chapter of the party considers the development as a slight capable of destabilizing the party in the state and must be discussed for a common ground to be reached to forestall any possible intra party squabbles.
“Our position will be made public as soon as the committee is through with the meeting. We respectfully enjoin all members and party faithful to remain calm and loyal as we are on top of the development”. ACN assured.
