..Ihedioha Restates commitment of NASS to Rural Development

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha has assured that the National Assembly (NASS) would continue to appropriate funds to complete all projects initiated for execution in all parts of the country.

He however warned that this would be contingent upon the cooperation and support of the benefiting states LGAs and communities to the contractors executing such projects.

Chief Ihedioha gave the assurance weekend, while flagging off the construction of 30km Mbaise Ring Road estimated at nearly N6.2bilion.

The road project, which according to him cuts across the 25 communities in the three LGAs of Mbaise is meant to enhance the transportation difficulties of the people for onward promotion and enhancement of their socio-economic activities.

Phase two of the project which would soon commence according to the Deputy Speaker would traverse Ogbe, Afor Oru, Akabo, Amuzi, Afor Ajala, Umueze, Enyiogugu to Ogbo Uvuru covers several kilometers.

Chief Ihedioha commended the people of Mbaise for their continued unflinching confidence, faith and cooperation to him and pledged to remain unwavered and undaunted in his commitment to enhance their lives.

He assured that the Arab contractor in charge of the project had been mobilized with 15% of the fund for the project for the immediate commcement of actions, and enjoined the people to refrain from acts capable of frustrating the realization of the project.

Chief Ihedioha also charged the contractor to involve the local communities in the execution of the project, stating that Mbaise is endowed with abundant human and material resources which if deployed would ease the execution of the project expected to be ready within 18 months.

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe, represented by his Minister of State, Mr. Darius Dickson Ishiaku in an address explained that the project was conceived by his Ministry to coordinate and fast track development in the Niger Delta.

Orubebe said that the 30k/m road awarded to messers Arab contractors AOO Nig Ltd in the sum of six billion one hundred and seventy eight million, fifty three thousand nine hundred and seventy nine naira, two kobo (N6,178,053,979,.02) represents the phase 1 of the entire road project which has a total length of 59k/m.

In keeping with the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan, the minister assured that the project would be completed within 18 months to boost economic activities within the region and accelerate social and cultural integration among the people through improved transportation network.

“It is a standard road with a carriage way width of 7.3m with the pavement having crushed stone base course and asphaltic concrete wearing course.”

The Minister therefore to solicited for the support and cooperation of governor Rochas Okorocha, the Royal Fathers and the people of the state in providing the enabling environment to realize the project.
