The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Dr. Ado Abdullahi Bayero yesterday declared that in 50 years on Kano throne, nothing has ever rattled or frightened him, “as I have absolute faith in God.”
The Emir who is the 56th ruler of Hausa kingdom and the 13th Fulani Emir of Kano Emirate in an interview with a select group of the media declared that for 50 years at the throne, nothing has perturbed him, pointing out that perseverance, endurance and patience has been his stronghold.
Emir Ado Bayero spoke in Hausa revealed that his only regret as the Emir of Kano was that two serving Heads of state (General Murtala Mohammed and General Sani Abacha) from Kano died during his reign.
The Kano monarch who is the longest serving Emir of Kano said that, “nothing has ever hurt me in my 50 years on the throne,” pointing out that thing that befall human being should be counted as the art of God.
According to him, he stepped into the Kano throne 50 years ago with mixed feelings, “when I was crowned as the Emir of Kano in June 1963, I received the honour with mixed feelings. I was happy, and then I was not happy.
“In any case, I took it as a call to serve my people. I was not happy because then, I had elder brothers, elderly uncles who could have done it better, but the mantle of leadership fell on me and I had no choice than to accept the responsibility.”
The Emir also spoke on the need to assign constitutional roles to traditional rulers in the country, pointing out that, “if the government decides to assign constitutional roles to traditional rulers, it is acceptable to me, and if they decide otherwise, it also acceptable.”
The Emir called on Nigerians to have faith in God, noting that, in everything that happens to one’s life, God has a purpose for it.
The 83 year old Emir called on his subjects to pray for the development of Kano and Nigeria, adding that peace and unity remains the cornerstone of every nation that is determined to develop.
