FINANCE commissioners in the 36 states of the federation on Thursday staged a walk out on the Minister of State for Finance, Dr Yerima Lawan Ngama over non-payment of February arrears amounting to N160 billion.
In a press conference later, the Chairman of the Commissioners Forum who is also the Finance Commissioner for Ebonyi State, Mr Timothy Odaah, told newsmen that the reason behind the boycott of the meeting was the non-implementation of the resolutions taken in most of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meetings, especially the resolutions of May, 2013.
“The arrears of February is not yet paid and no clue is given. The augmentation passed at last month’s meeting has not been paid. We have taken a lot of disappointments from this administration of FAAC which in all intents and purposes has been inactive” he said.
He said the states have borne this ineptitude for long and this has affected the payment of contractors and workers in various states.
He, therefore, called on the state governors and President Goodluck Jonathan to put heads together and find a lasting solution to the improglio.
