The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero has tasked traditional rulers in the country to remain committed to the promotion of peace, unity, stability and development of the country.
The Emir who received the National Development Summit of Traditional Rulers (NDSTR) in his Palace noted the need for traditional rulers to complement government’s effort to solve security problems bedeviling the country.
The group of traditional rulers led by NDSTR Programmes Chairman, His Royal Majesty, Emmanuel E. Sideso (Abe 1 and Ovie of Uvwie kingdom) to commiserate with Emir Bayero over the death of his wife, congratulate him for his 50th anniversary on the throne and as well show their solidarity over the last attack on the Emir’s life by terrorists.
“We are here to console your emirate of the the unfortunate incidents of the past during which lives were lost, including your personal aide. We are also deeply touched by the death of your dear wife. We pray that God will give you the fortitude to bear their loss. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy.
“We also pray that God will strengthen you in your tireless efforts to promote peace in Kano state. This Summit condemns in totality the activities of insurgents in the North generally and will always stand by the government and the law enforcement agencies in their struggle to maintain law and order.
“We shall not relent in our role as traditional rulers to continue to educate our subjects on the importance of peace. The Summit is very grateful to you for continually sending Alhaji Tijani Abubakar, Tafidan Kano to represent you at our events. It shows your natural devotion to national unity, peace and progress.”
The NDSTR congratulated Emir Bayero on his 50th anniversary on the throne coming up on Saturday, pointing out that, “your (Emir Bayero) reign has made a tremendous difference in the affairs of Kano state. By our estimation, your reign is one of the best that Kano has ever seen. You are a dogged and proven advocate of peace, an inspiration to leaders, a champion of economic development and a man of profound garlands.”
According to the Ovie, NDSTR is designed to provide a forum for stakeholders to interact and foster friendship towards the making of a just and egalitarian society, proffer ideas on how to maximize the potentials of traditional rulers in grass root administration through constitutional empowerment.
“The Summit has been very helpful in smothering the scourge of tribal bitterness, religious acrimony, terrorism and kidnapping. To a very considerable extent, the Summit’s objectives are being achieved. We are all witnesses to the new wave of massive inter ethnic collaborations and interfaces, particularly, among monarchs,” the Ovie added.
