We are surprised that the head and chief executive of the so-called Transition Programme in Anambra East Local Government , Mr Chinedu Obidigwe is leading a street demonstration in Aguleri made up of identifiable societal rejects ,suppliers in the local government and applicants waiting endlessly to be employed in the local government system inter-sparsed with demoralised APGA –PDP members, under the aegis of a two-day old organisation Anambra North Youth Association to twist the noble words of great men in order to satisfy narrow political interests.
What did Mr Chinedu Obidigwe and his ilk hope to achieve in the mind of people by perambulating the streets with dangerous weapons harassing innocent citizens of Aguleri, and environs in the guise of a demonstration, when a stone’s throw away from them, the local government that Mr Obidigwe ought to head,if he were competent is being claimed by Kogi State, where the youth and the weapons would have proved useful.
Mr Obidigwe does not represent the youth in Anambra North Zone. He is an extension of the Government of Mr Peter Obi in Aguleri-a government that would not conduct local government elections because Anambra East is likely to elect a person far better ad less prone to manipulation than Chinedu Obidigwe.
The current action of Obidigwe will go down in history as the first local government Chairman to lead thugs and miscreants in a street demonstration, even though we are aware that he was the one who took instructions from Awka to disrupt the event venue of another party’s aspirant in March, when the latter was to receive a chieftaincy title from some traditional rulers.
As if this caricature is not enough, Mr Obidigwe twisted the well-intentioned speech made in Awka by our highly valued Hon Ralph Okeke, who has in the past represented Anambra East and West very well in the Federal House of Representatives.
Mr Obidigwe claimed that Hon Okeke said in Marble Arch Hotels during the multi-party endorsement of Senator Dr Chris Ngige that there is no one qualified from Anambra North to be governor of Anambra State.
Nothing can be farther from the truth. What Hon Okeke who moved the motion for the multi-party-endorsements, supported by Hon Ejike Nwosu of APGA, Hon Abasilim and Mrs Enenchukwu of PDP and Barr Paul Obianaso from Okija, said on that occasion was that He and other committed members of Anambra North Senatorial Zone whole-heartedly accepted the proposition of Governor Peter Obi that Anambra North should produce the governor and formed a body called Anambra North Progressive Association (ANOPA).
However, as Hon Okeke narrated ‘After following the process for long time, we in ANOPA can objectively conclude that this thing about getting a governor from Anambra North is a proper wayo, designed to favour Mr Peter Obi and not the people of Anambra North.’
He went further to say that Anambra North is not giving up ,’but rather than the trap being set by Gov Obi for the zone, we should wait and genuinely get our slot after Dr Chris Ngige would have completed the good work he started in 2003 before he was interrupted because most Anambra people will think along that line if Dr Ngige accepts our plea today and declares for the race’
Luckily, this position having been broadcast on television and reported in reputable newspapers and on the internet and is on good record. Chinedu Obidigwe was not at this event. Neither were his sponsors. We are not surprised that he cannot also interpret media reports on the occasion correctly.
Given that Chinedu Obidigwe was one of the thugs who attacked Senator Chris Ngige is Onitsha during the 2011 Senatorial election campaigns, we are not surprised that his demoralised faction of APGA (APGA-PDP) could not find a better substitute on matters relating to attacking Ngige and once again chose to waste government resources in frivolous name-calling and manufacture of words directed at Dr Chris Ngige and his highly rated party man Hon Ralph Okeke. We are also surprised that the mention of the name Ngige is already leading Obidigwe’s unseen masters to desperate,error-prone actions.
Unfortunately he was rewarded by the obi government with appointment to the Transition Council as Anambra East would not have failed to see though such erratic and immature fellow where he to stand elections.
We therefore call on the House of Assembly to immediately begin the process of removing Mr Obidigwe as Chairman of Transition Council , while replacing him with a more mature and level-headed fellow who will act in the larger interest of the people of Anambra East LGA rather than his selfish partisan political goals.
